The government, on Monday, has decided to start COVID-19 vaccinations in India for children aged 12 to 14 years from March 16. This was important as schools had reopened across the country with standard restrictions amid a significant fall in Covid cases.

In a statement, the health ministry also said that it had decided to remove the condition of co-morbidity for people above 60 years and now all above 60 years could receive the precautionary dose.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted in happy notes that if the children were safe the country was safe and that the COVID-19 vaccination of children in the age group of 12 to 13 and 13 to 14 would start from March 16. He also added that all above 60 years were now eligible to receive their precautionary dose.

As per the government figures, so far more than 90 million children aged between 15 and 17 have been vaccinated throughout the country.
